My last couple of weeks have been hectic, but also heartfelt...
Both of my transports were successful & all animals have been placed!!! Yeah!!!:)
Thanks to you & your donations, we had enough money for the vans & gas, again Thank YOU!!!
One of the humane societies had to end their adoption event early due to running out of animals to adopt.
We still have 13 pups here, some weren't well enough to go from the previous trips, but will go sometime in July.
We also have, Harvey, Peepers, Scooter & Tiny up for private adoptions.
Life is a never-ending chain of events..
I wouldn't have thought my trip to Wisconsin for Noel to see Dr. Sheperd would result in a forever home for her.
My sweet Noel has been adopted!!!
I didn't think it would hit me as hard as it did...
That is a big reason it has taken me a few days to compose myself.
Every time I would begin to write this entry, I would start crying..
I consider myself a pretty strong person, but she has touched my heart in a way that will never be forgotten.
I'm still trying to get use to the fact that she is not here. Her sweet happy face and her wiggley butt:)
It is a very strange thing to get so use to a dog, being a part of your life and then one day they are gone to new homes..
I'm not sure I was ready for her to leave me, but when you love, you want what is best for those you love, no matter the personal emotions. It was time for her to have her own person.
The good news is that I will be able to visit her, whenever I'm in Wisconsin and she will always be in the good care of Dr. Sheperd.
How Noel found her new owner:
Whenever I go back to Wisconsin, I always stop in to visit my friends at Suburban Harley Davidson.
They are a very dog friendly place. My friend Rob one of the sales guys adopted "Jake" he is the Rottweiler/Lab pup shown in my Fox 6 video on my homepage. 3 years later Jake is now over 100 pounds, spoiled, happy and loves people.
Jake didn't like Rob's Porsche so he bought him a Hummer, which Jake loves as you can see in the picture. (((giggles)))

Anyways back to the story:
I brought Noel there to socialize a bit. She did great, a little shy at first, but settled into meeting lots of people.
The Harley people I know have huge hearts for the animals.
She received lots of loving from the employees and customers.

Happily lying under Rob's desk after we had been there a bit. Al came by and immediately asked what happened to her.
He visited with her and later that day told me to keep him in mind if I were going to adopt her.
He had lost his previous dog a Basenji, wasn't actively looking but decided that this was a meant to be dog meeting.

We talked over a few days and I brought Noel over to his house for the home visit.
She settled in quickly, met her new cat friends who weren't too thrilled to meet her, but I'm told are doing fine with her now.
And with a heavy heart I left her, to see how she would do in a new home. She did well, Al did mention that she kept looking around unsure of what was happening and it took her a few days to eat.
I stopped by the morning I was headed back to Tennessee. Gave her lots of hugs and kisses, thanked Al for adopting her and headed home.
Later that evening I called from the road to see how she was doing, I knew she was fine, it was more for my own sake.
He put the phone up to her and I could hear her snoring. She was on the couch next to him sleeping.
Al has promised to keep me posted and send lots of pictures, so I will share those with you in the future.

My mind was just full of non-stop thoughts, emotions and reflections. Reflecting on her and the past 6 months. How far she has come, how much she has learned to forget the past and love. Love other dogs, people and just life. We should all be so lucky to forget the past and live in the present..
Her story and the success of this rescue are because people cared enough & come together.
Her medical bills have been covered thanks to your donations.
The wrongs that were done to her have been righted, because of us..
I'm not saying this to be boastful, but the truth is, if every person took in one rescued animal or donated to whatever animal organization they choose, no matter what the amount, think of what could be accomplished.
In such a short time we have raised two thousand dollars with our donation badge. Spreading awareness, donating whatever the amount all adds to the collective good.
Be part of the change you want to see in the world, in whatever way you can...
If you have my badge on your blogs or websites, please let me know!!
We're putting together a Thank you page and I want to try to get everyone I can on it..
The next few days I'll be loading auction items, still have about four thousand in vet bills past due and then I hit the road & leave to teach in Boston. Next transport will be mid to end of July.

I'm feeling so much emotion these days and just need to say Thank you!!!
Thank you for believing in me and for caring about the animals.
It is because of you and your love for the animals that we have these happy endings:)
You all give me wings to fly and care for these babies..
I miss you Noel...
Blessings and Light..
Bernie

As you can see our little "Noel"
is growing up. She has gained almost 10 pounds and is very happy and healthy.
Still a tiny bit on the shy side, she warms up quickly and is a non stop ball of energy.
She gets so excited & wags so hard she falls over:)
All the infections she had are now gone and she is healthy enough to have her ear surgery. If you don't know Noel's story just click on her name above to read about it. She had suffered terrible abuse and had no ears when I got her.
One of the ear holes has completly sealed it self shut and they will have to cut a new hole and surgically make her a new opening. This type of surgery is called an ear canal ablation. It's going to be costly and I may have to call in some help.
But all in all, she is doing great and we are ready to start taking applications. She is approximately 8 months to a year, female, loves other dogs, plays hard and is non stop, busy girl who loves to be pet and hugged.
Thanks to everyone that sent in hats, she loved them and they kept her ear holes nice and warm!! Thank you so very much!!!

Since my last post, Noel is doing great!!!
Thanks so much, for all the e-mails asking how she is..
She is such a joy to behold. Always happy, loving and now is playing with all of our dogs:)
She still has a little submissive peeing when you initially pet her, but so much less than when she first got here.
We will have to do some extensive surgery on her one ear, but all in all, she is going to be just fine!!!
We have started to receive some FABULOUS hats for her, the other dogs are soooo jealous!!!
Thanks so much to Vickie Howell, Claudine Hellmuth, Theresa MacNaughton, Julie Molina & Elizabeth Hartsell.
The hats are so beautiful, nice and soft and will keep her ear holes warm so that the cold doesn't damage her ears any further.
It was quite the challenge to get her to sit still to take pics!!
She is just a ball of energy these days and while these pics aren't the best, I really wanted to get them up, so that you know your kind gestures are so much appreciated.
Here are a few of the hats she has had a chance to model..

And our last hat seems to have disappeared and look where we found it, Jasper had it..
I knew they were jealous:)

Other Dog News:
Since I left for Boston, Josie was adopted by a super fun artist Rebecca Aranyi in North Carolina.
Take a peek at her site It's still under construction but fun to look at!!
And Morris was adopted by the daughter of an artist friend and is now living in Indiana.
We currently have adoptions pending, one in California and two in Boston with other artists, it really makes my heart smile that the animals not only have love, but also artful owners.
Sad but true, I'll have to limit my numbers this month, we've got lots of surgeries that are needed to be done, so the next phase of the art auction will be going up very soon, money has been very tight the past six months and this squeezes us even more.
Surgeries to be done are: 5 dentals, one cherry eye, one dermoid (which is: hair that grows out of an eyeball), surgery on one of our puppie's heart, a condition called Patent ductus arteriosus, two cyst removals, heart worm treatment and Noel's ear surgery which could be as costly as two thousand dollars if they have to remove her whole ear canal, we'll know more later this week when we meet with the surgeon. So it will be a busy month!!
I'll be trying to catch up to get the art auctions going this week, my e-mails answered, trying to get all my year end book work done, running back and forth to the vet & trying to prepare for CHA
I should know my show schedule by the end of the week, so if you're there please stop by and say Hi!!
Will post more later this week..

This is a serious tissue warning..
This is an emotional post, but a very heartfelt and WILL be a very happy ending...
Please keep this in mind and read on..
This past week has been one of non stop, every minute of my days, has been filled with animals and emotions.
I have been to the pound many days this past week. They were filled to capacity, like I've never seen it before.
As I passed the kennels, looking into each animal's eyes, nothing could prepare my heart, for the little red dog I was about to see..
She meekishly looked at me, her tail thumping the ground and her eyes pleading for a home to love her..
I could not move, I lowered myself to my knees and started to sob..
((I've been crying for days))
She had no ears..
Scars of new and old, all over her body and she is just a baby..
In more pain than I could ever imagine, she still could wag her tail.
Well, she has become my Christmas Gift.
Her name is "Noel" and has become a lesson in love, a memory that will never be forgotten.

Our best guess, judging by the extent of her injuries is that she was used as a bait dog.
If you are not familiar with the term, it's a dog that is use to train other dogs to fight.
Whatever the case this poor baby has had a hard life of pain..
She has old injuries, months old all over her body that have healed and new ones, open and full of infection.
She spent the nite at the vet, her first nite and is home with me now.
We're giving her lots of love and she's being medicated with lots of antibiotics.
It will take her time to heal but she is more than willing to love everyone she comes in contact with!!!
Very afraid of other dogs, that may be something she may not get over, but only time will tell.
She Loves to go for car rides and is very well behaved in the car.
If anyone would like to make her a hat with ears, I'm sure it will help boost her self confidence.
I think she is beautiful with or without ears!!!
I'm learning many things as I travel this journey with the animals..
They teach me so much about life and unconditional love.
As much as I want to blame, point fingers, get angry at the world, I've learned it's all wasted energy.
I let it go and live in the moment.
Blame is so easy, forgiveness is hard..
What I've learned is. to focus my energies on what I can do..
How I can make the future of these animals better.
The stories read here on this blog, prove that we all can make a difference together, each one of us doing our part.
You who read, who care, who love are all a part of this journey and with the intention of love that we all share and send out to the world, change will happen.. I believe this with all my heart.
Not fast enough, but we cannot ever give up hope.. Someday, things will be different and the world will be a better place..

So with this thought, I send out to all of you,
Blessings of Love and Light this Holiday Season..
