"Cowboy"

It never ceases to amaze me, how much I learn with every passing year that I do rescue.
When I first started out, I started doing Jack Russell rescue. The breed is a challenging breed, not for everyone, but oh how much fun, wonderful little brilliant creatures they are, once you understand that they are not suppose to train you, which most times they do!!
As my rescue has evolved over the years and we no longer do breed specific rescue, but try to save as many good dogs, no matter what their breed, I learn something new everyday.
I'm posting pictures our our new guest here: Cowboy. He is a Bloodhound or Bloodhound/mix when they come from the pound we can never be sure. Male, approximately a year old.
I've named him this because he is such a busy guy, just wanting to sniff things out..
So much so he doesn't pay any mind to me and will start working, strong like a bull, he dragged me to the ground and kept going:) What came to mind was a cowboy being pulled behind a horse..
He's a doll!! Is fine with other dogs, loving, fearless almost took me over a six foot wall the other day.
His only thing is that he has a cherry eye. Not a huge deal, easily taken care of with a simple surgery.
I'm putting these pics up for those agencies I have contacted to give him a real working job.
This is a picture of him at the pound.

Now you see why I couldn't just leave him..

Art Auction Update

The new date for the auction is official!!! December 1-10 starting at 6:00 p.m.
My ebay i.d. is: aplace2bark

I've been working hard and finally gotten half the auction listed and ready to go for Friday.
I know so many of you have been waiting so patiently and I thank you for understanding..
It really is a tough thing doing everything myself, I truly don't mind. I just wish I had more of me to do more:)
And I hate disappointing people with my tardiness. So please accept my apology if you have been waiting on the auction.
This week is going to be a non stop marathon..
I have to finish all my internet projects today, tomorrow I have to drive back and forth to the vet for health certificates/vaccines, etc. for the 25+ dogs I'll be transporting up north to the humane societies on Thursday. Wednesday I'll be taking all my personal pets and the dogs that aren't ready to go to my friends boarding facility, picking up the rental van and then setting up the van and loading to leave at 5:00 a.m. on Thursday for my 12 hour drive.

Gotta run, but will update later tonite...
Lots of love and doggie kisses!!

Sophie's trip to Boston and New Faces around here..

I"m sorry I haven't posted sooner..
Yes, I'm still alive:)
Never a dull moment and life doesn't stand still around here for a minute.
I've done another transport to Chicago since my last post...
Left for and I got back from Boston last Monday the 13th. Everything about my trip was perfect!!
Sophie made the trip, a bit shaken but fine and happily to her new parents.
She was sent on my friend's transport service, her drive to Boston was an 18hour trip with 73 other dogs going to the east coast. Kyle and Pam do a great job and have helped save over 12,000 lives!!
So if you want to adopt a dog from me, we can get them to the east coast.

I would have flown her, but didn't think she would do well in the cargo hold..
She is doing well and going to work everyday with her parents Pokey and John Bolton at Quilting Arts Magazine.

It's always so bitter sweet, to say goodbye to my sweet angels..

At least when I place them with friends, I'll see them again:)
Each and every one of the dogs I take in from the pound would have been put to sleep, so the stories I share are what keep me going.

I was able to visit with old friends while in Boston and got to see and will be teaching at the following stores in Boston in the near future. Absolutely Everything in Topsfield, Massachusetts April 21-22 2007
Stamp Act in Marshfield, Massachusetts to be announced.

I'm still working on the auction. I just can't believe how much time everything takes.
With so many animals constantly coming in, it leaves me so little time to do anything else.
Trust me when I say I need to do it, our vet bills are out of control..
I'll keep you all posted.
I wish I make it happen faster, but it's just me doing everything.

New faces: This is only a partial listing so if you are looking for a friend and don't see what you are looking for, send me and e-mail and I'll let you know what we have here at the moment.
"Winston": A male 6-8 month old Puggle. He is very shy and worried. I don't think we was treated really well.. He's only been here a few days but is starting to warm up..

"Fawn" is a female terrier mix. Sweet, energetic and also nervous and shy, I'm sure she'll come around soon.

"Buzz" is a male Shizu/Schnauzer mix. Approximately 1-2 years of age, he is loaded with love and energy. Loves to play and be right by your side!!!

"Hoagie" is a male Beagle/Cattle Dog mix. Approximately 1-2 years of age. Lots of energy!! Dominant natured.
Would do best in an only dog home.

"Jasper" is being adopted and will be living very near Vancouver, BC Canada. His family is truly wonderful and is anxiously awaiting his arrival in the next week or two depending on the holiday.

"Bear" is a male Chesepeake Bay Retriever. Approximately 1-2 years of age, he is very hand shy. He is very loving, but will need some training. Big and strong, he doesn't know his own strength. Very soft mouth when taking treats.

Bear will be going to Maine to Chesapeake Safe Harbor Rescue
Thank you Jane for taking him in!!!

Exciting News!!! "A Place To Bark" will be merging our rescue efforts with Friends of Hannah
We will be able to do so much more for the animals together. We have been working together for several months and the friendship has proven to be a very healthy, supportive and wonderful expierence.
Prisi and her staff at the Hairy Moose have been helping me with the transports and the boarding of my animals when I have to leave town to transport. It has taken our combined finances to get these animals rescued to places where they can be adopted. I'm blessed to have them in my circle of friends and I look forward to the New Year and seeing how much more we can do together for the animals!!
If you ever need to board your animals and live in the Tennessee area please consider her facility.
Both of us, put all the money we earn back into the rescue, so any and all support is always appreciated!!
I'm pooped it's been non stop all month..
I will post more this week.. Mr. Magoo is doing SUPER!! He has a full coat of hair, you'll never believe how great he looks!!
I did end up adopting one of the dogs I rescued from the puppy mill seizure:)
More in a few days..

Art Auction Update

The art auction is being moved back a few weeks. I'm truly sorry, but it is more work than I anticipated.
I thought I could get everything photographed, uploaded and listed myself in between chores, dogs and assignments.
The upcoming trips & transports have delayed me, but the auction will happen the week after Thanksgiving.
November 20th thru the 30th.
Not to mention I have had numerous artists ask if they could still send art in..
So please feel free to do so.
I always seem to be behind and hope to someday catch up with my life:)
The art is Fabulous and will be well worth the wait!!! I'm trying very hard to take the best photographs possible and that also takes some work.
I will be offline the next 4 days due to my computer needing some work, but promise to post as soon as it is working again.
Till then..
Luv them BIG!!! & updated news..
Just a quick update on some of the new faces:
Brandy who is a female St. Bernard approximately 2-4 years of age. SUPER sweet!! Big, well behaved, loving and funny!!!
I always take pictures of the dogs right when I pull them from the pound and then pictures later. It never ceases to amaze me the change that takes place, once they are out. It's all in the eyes and their smiles:)

Mister Mac has been very busy helping with kitten duty. I feed and he cleans their little faces. He's just my best little helper.

It seems like just yesterday that all the puppies were just born.. Now they are almost ready to go.
Pinky's puppies are growing so fast.. Their soooo cute!! Another couple of weeks and they'll be up for adoption.

Sophie's puppies have been weaned and will be leaving for the Humane Society in Chicago very soon and Sophie& I will be leaving to bring her to her new family in Boston on November 9th.

Click here read Sophie's upcoming adoption soon to be posted.

Giggles Puppies will soon be up for adoption as well, I have to get around to taking a new picture of all of them, but for now here is just a cute one, of two out of the five.

Gidget: Boxer, female approximately 1 year of age. SUPER HIGH ENERGY!! She needs training and will need a consistent and structured environment.
Sweet and Loving she needs LOTS of play time.

There are many more, please e-mail or call if you are looking for something in particular, this is just a few of the many looking for forever homes. I wish I could post everyone and everything, but my time to post is limited.
Nitey nite..

With Gratitude...

As the seasons are changing and I take a moment to reflect over the year that is quickly passing, I'm so very grateful...
For good friends, new friends, animal lovers, artists who give so lovingly of their time and talents, fellow rescuers and those of you that read my blog.
The kind notes, donations, stories of beloved pets and all the good energy that has been sent my way, keep me doing what I'm doing. I know I've said it before and I'll say it again, I don't think you can say Thank you or appreciate others too much..

Lately I've been doing a more than usual, so much so, I've lost 12 pounds this last month without really trying:)
I haven't posted much lately do to the overwhelming number of animals we have taken in.
I think this next transport will be the biggest one yet. I couldn't do it without the constant support, so THANK YOU ALL for making these trips possible. Costly as they are, it saves lives and that is priceless..

Please know that even though, I don't post as often as I should and am constantly behind, my thoughts are with all of you.. It's tough being a one person rescue, but I'm working on that and will be merging my rescue with another, so that I have help and vice, versa. These past few years have had a learning curve, learning what my limits are, the hardships of running a rescue, time management and the financial challenges. With dreams and doing things that make a difference, we learn, hard as things can be at times, we have to start somewhere and with time our dreams can come true...
This I believe and the past years have shown true. It all starts with intention.

The puppy mill dogs are finally in the last stages of criminal case and will be going to new homes soon.
I've taken part in helping to care for them, while they were being warehoused during the court proceedings.
Their little eyes grab at your soul and you're heart is never quite the same again..
This is a local update and at the bottom is film footage.
If you watch closely, you'll see a quick cameo of me applying for one of the dogs. The little one that stole my heart and that I was applying for, when they were filming is a geriatric Chihuahua named Daisy. She stole my heart..
Tiny, old, all teeth gone and just needing a soft place to lay & someone to pamper her..
If I get her, she'll be my little muse, spending her time with me in my art studio.
Click here to see update on local coverage of the puppymill dogs.
The Humane Society of The United States & Nashville Humane has played such a big part in helping these animals.
The teams of vets that came from all parts of the country to fix the hundreds of animals are part of the HSUS team.
I'm proud to recommend both organizations if you are looking to donate to good causes.

Art Auction News: I have amazing artwork!! Thanks to all the wonderful artists that give so unselfishly!!!
These stories that I write with the happy endings are because of people like you...
By working together we can make great things happen for the animals:) Here are a few items to get excited about!!

I'm working on getting it up and running. I have my paperwork in to Mission Fish, so soon we will be official on E-bay if anyone wants to auction in our name. I'll keep you posted on our progress..

I just received my authors copy of my New ATC Book. I'm pretty excited and hope that if you are going to purchase it, you will do so, by just clicking the Amazon link in my sidebar. The rescue will get then get proceeds from the sale..
Every little bit helps!!
I'm currently working on a new book for the upcoming year, it will be on Egg art. A bit of everything for the egg enthusiast.
